Bio

Diego Esquivel [ctrl_v] is a Costa Rican artist focused on visual arts that mainly involve projections, technology, space intervention, sound, and interactivity.

I started experimenting with video mixing and composition of graphic elements in real-time in 2007,  and shortly after that, I founded Metamind Visual together with Abraham Soria.
Our work initially had a place in the electronic music scene, where we managed to open up space through live visual performance.
Over time, we added new techniques such as video mapping, the use of generative art, and interactive elements. This allowed us to expand our artistic offerings to fields such as architecture, dance, theater, music, and multidisciplinary events; concretizing projects in countries like Italy, Spain, Holland, England, United States, and Mexico.

My participation with Metamind Visual would culminate with the execution of the IBERESCENA program prize, for the multidisciplinary work Casa Tomada (Taken House), where I was in charge of the artistic direction and the curatorship of the intervention proposals of the different members of the project.

Currently, I generate my artistic work through my profile as [ctrl_v], with which I have been able to exhibit video mapping works in France, Japan, Iceland, and Italy (1st place GlowFestival 2016), get into teaching, open space in Costa Rica with open calls for video mapping (Casa Verde - Amón Cultural 2018) and at the same time experiment with different techniques of motion graphics, augmented reality and virtual reality.
